Design Community is a Merkle designer-initiated group for Merkle creatives to share knowledge and build resources while creating connections and increasing collaboration.
For current stage, Design Community includes three activities/functions: Design Talk, Resource Library, & Happy Hours.
• In 2022, I founded the Design Community and formed a committee with 5 members.
• I led this committee in organizing various activities, including over 8 Design Talks annually, establishing 3 or more Design resource libraries, and conducting over 10 team-building sessions(Happy Hours) in 2023.
• Currently, the Design Community engaged over 140 participants company-wide, encompassing Merkle designers from the United States, Brazil, and India, with each Design Talk attracting over 50 attendees.
• The Design Community concept has earned endorsement from Merkle's Creative leadership, leading to additional human resource support to further grow the Community and its influence.
1
To generate a sense of community. It helps build close connections, overcoming the isolation of remote work. This fosters a supportive design network that enhances collaboration and job satisfaction.
2
To facilitate the collaboration. The Design Community activities facilitate valuable connections among designers, fostering a learning environment. Through these activities and interactions with one another, designers engage in more conversations and collaborations. This not only enhances idea sharing but also aids in the development of their design skills.
3
To build design culture. Before showcasing our design team's capabilities, it's critical to first identify our design culture and thoroughly understand our existing perspectives on design through closer communication.
4
To provide practical design resources (wireframe components, layout template, and interaction design best practices, etc.). Creating a collaborative and shareable design resource library can significantly enhance learning among designers and increase work efficiency.
It's a central location for designers to create and store three types of primary resources, including tutorials. design best practices, and design assets. For example, Figma tutorials, Best practices of interaction design, and wireframe components library. Everyone in the community can have the access to view or contribute to the library.
